COVID-19: Public to inform police for interstates travel

17/03/2020 10:20 PM

KUALA LUMPUR,  March 17 -- Members of the public who are planning to travel between states must notify police before making their journey.

Inspector-General of Police  Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said it was to minimise the movement among people and reduce the spread of COVID-19.

“They must fill in notification form provided at all district police headquarters and police stations nationwide. They must also state the reason for travelling, and it must be a concrete reason before they are being issued with an authorisation letter.

“This document will explain that its carrier has notified us and that the journey is made with valid reasons,” he told a special news conference at Bukit Aman here today.

Abdul Hamid said, however, the directive was not applicable for those who wanted to travel to Sarawak where they must undergo a 14-day quarantine.

At the same time, Abdul Hamid reminded the people not to take the directive for granted by giving false information.

“We are not going to take action against those who fail to inform us.

“You can lie (about reasons for travelling) but it will land you in a difficult situation later which will lead to the next phase, the curfew phase,” he said.

Abdul Hamid also said the Movement Control Order and interstates travel ban would be enforced by midnight today.
