KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 -- With just two days till Christmas, vendors and restaurants in the city are offering a popular festive treat, gingerbread, in the form of cookies and cakes which exude the marvellous aroma of spices and molasses.
Junandus, a local cafe, which serves various desserts from cookies to cakes, has been selling their special gingerbread cookies since 2015, exclusively during the Christmas season.
“We are delighted to bring happiness to our customers with a wide range of beautiful Christmas desserts such as log cakes, gingerbread cookies and chocolates, to share with family and friends.
“Our version of gingerbread is milder in spices to appeal more to locals. While foreigners often like to pair gingerbread with a glass of wine or a cup of marshmallow hot chocolate, we (Malaysians) personally like to dip our gingerbread in our favorite local coffee,” said its managing director Jun Chong to Bernama today.
Sales for the traditional cookie has been overwhelming, with demand increasing each year as more people become acquainted with the delicacy, he said, adding that non-Christian customers who purchase the tidbit, are also on the rise.
Fresh from the oven, gingerbread gives out a delicious aroma.
Checks by Bernama have found that gingerbread cookies and cakes are out of stock at some supermarkets.
