KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- The Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Malaysia is inviting Malaysians to participate in its online Tilawah (recitation of) AL-Quran and Azan competition.
In a statement released to Bernama International News Service today, the embassy said those keen to participate in the Saudi Arabia organised event can register at http://quranathanawards.com. The closing date for competition entries will be August 18.
Todate, 21,000 participants from 162 countries have already applied to participate in the two prestigious competitions that offer prizes worth up to US$1.9 million to the winners.
Launched earlier this year, the Islamic based competition is aimed at bringing global awareness to the various cultures of Islam while enhancing its image globally.
Under the competition, participants must send in their entry videos by August 18. The short-listing of participants will take place from August 19 till September 19.
Following this, the livestreaming of performances will take place from Sept 20 till Oct 20 while the list of winners will be announced from Oct 21 till Nov 21.
The winner of the Al-Quran recitation will win a cash prize of SR5 million (US$3 million) while the winner of the Azan competition stands to win SR2 million (US$533,000).
