Polytechnic lecturers must intensify teaching, learning methods to embrace technology

KUCHING, April 3 (Bernama) -- Lecturers at the polytechnics especially those in Sarawak should ensure that teaching and learning innovations in class are intensified to face the challenges in automation technology.

Special Affairs Adviser (Sarawak Affairs) in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Hafsah Harun, said the labour market over the next 30 years would be filled with highly skilled, creative and critical thinking individuals or skilled workers.

She said the industrial revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) the buzz word now,  involved automation technology that provided new challenges to all sectors in the country which also required them to make changes in tandem with digital transformation to remain competitive.

He said with the IR40, problems on dependency of energy sources could be overcome and that could directly change the future of the working world.

"If this complex new technological challenge is not given appropriate emphasis, it can cause Malaysia to lag behind when competing at a global level," she said at the closing of Kuching Polytechnic Project and Innovation Festival at its premises near here today.

Therefore, the higher education system in the country needed to undergo the IR4.0 changes.
