From Amirul Mohd Sajadi
MAKKAH, May 27 (Bernama) -- The ritual of stoning the jamrah is not merely about fulfilling one of the obligatory rites of haj, but also serves as a lesson in humility and putting others first as millions gather in one place.
Federal Territories Mufti Ahmad Fauwaz Fadzil said one of the greatest wisdoms behind the ritual is in nurturing patience, tolerance and respect for others while performing acts of worship.
He said the essence of stoning the jamrah lies in obedience to Allah SWT’s command, not because pilgrims physically see the devil, but as a symbol of submission and devotion to the Almighty.
“When we are at the jamrah area, we cannot push or think only about ourselves. We need to give way to others and perform the ritual calmly.
“That is where the ego is tested. We learn that even in crowded situations, the common good must come before personal desire,” he told reporters here recently.
He said the smooth movement of millions of Muslims performing the stoning ritual each year also demonstrates how cooperation and tolerance can prevail even in challenging situations.
Ahmad Fauwaz said the spirit of helping one another and being considerate during the ritual reflects the strength of the ummah built on compassion and unity.
“If we are able to cooperate even in something as seemingly simple as throwing small stones, then surely we can work together in pursuing greater agendas for the benefit of Muslims,” he said.
He added that the spirit of setting aside one’s ego and prioritising others should not end in the Holy Land, but instead be carried home and practised in daily life after the haj season.
