KOTA BHARU, April 18 (Bernama) -- The General Operations Force (GOF) arrested two men, including a foreigner, and seized five kilogrammes of cannabis buds worth RM400,000 in an operation in Serongga, Pasir Mas, this morning.

GOF Southeast Brigade Commander SAC Ahmad Radzi Hussain said in the 10.30 am incident, a team from the Serongga Interception Checkpoint flagged down a grey Perodua Alza driven by a local man with a Sri Lankan passenger.

“Initial checks revealed that the Sri Lankan national's social visit pass had expired. Both suspects were then taken to the Taman Bakti Tactical Base (Komtek) with the assistance of the Company A Strike Force from the GOF 9th Battalion for further examination,” he said in a statement today.

He said a thorough search of the vehicle’s rear uncovered a black bag containing five compressed bundles suspected to be cannabis buds, weighing an estimated five kilogrammes.

He said preliminary investigations indicated that the market value for the substance could reach up to RM80,000 per kilogramme.

“The suspects, aged in their 20s and 50s, have been detained for further investigation. The seized items were handed over to the relevant authorities for action under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
