SUNGAI PETANI, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) detained a man in his 20s and seized 12,100 litres of suspected misappropriated diesel in raids on two locations on Monday.

State KPDN director Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin said the operation, conducted with officers from the Kedah Special Branch, was launched at 2 pm following public tip-offs and the ministry's intelligence.

“The first raid was conducted on a lorry as it was refuelling at a petrol station. An inspection of the vehicle revealed two Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) tanks containing diesel.

“The second raid was carried out at a store in Kampung Permatang Gedong, believed to be a collection and storage point for the fuel,” he said in a statement today.

In addition to the diesel, valued at RM34,364, authorities also confiscated the lorry, two IBC tanks and related equipment, with a total estimated value of RM111,500.

Muhammad Nizam said the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and warned that stern action will be taken against those who misuse controlled items.

He also urged the public to come forward with any information regarding the misappropriation of controlled or subsidised goods.
