Elderly Woman Dies, Three Hurt In Two-car Crash In Muar

MUAR, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- An elderly woman was killed while three others were injured in an accident involving two cars on Jalan Pintasan Bakri here last night.

Senior Fire Officer I Mohd Fettry Mahat of the Muar Fire and Rescue Station said they received a distress call at 9.47 pm, following which a team of 12 personnel was dispatched to the scene.

In a statement here, he said the crash involved a Honda City and a Toyota Vios. 

“The 19-year-old woman driving the Honda City and her passenger, a 25-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and were assisted by members of the public, while the Toyota Vios driver, a 44-year-old woman, was also hurt and her passenger, a 73-year-old woman, was found trapped in the car and unconscious,” he said.

Mohd Fettry said the team used special equipment to extricate the trapped elderly victim, who was later confirmed dead at the scene by a Ministry of Health (MOH) medical officer.

He said the victim’s body was handed over to the police for further action, while the injured were taken to hospital for treatment.

The operation was concluded at 10.51 pm after the situation at the scene was confirmed to be safe.

Muar district police chief ACP Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said that preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred when the Toyota Vios entered the wrong lane and travelled against traffic before colliding with the Honda City.

He added that the collision left the Toyota Vios passenger with severe head injuries, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while three other individuals sustained minor injuries and received treatment at a hospital.

“The body was sent to the Forensic Department of Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital for a post-mortem, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.
