JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- The Johor police will expand the Go To Safety Point (GTSP) Programme statewide next year, as part of its efforts to enhance community safety and improve access to emergency assistance.
Johor Deputy Police Chief DCP Abdul Latiff Mehat said the initiative aims to ensure multiple active GTSP locations are available in every residential area, town, and public hotspot to build a more sustainable community-based safety ecosystem.
He said the programme not only strengthens collaboration between the police and the public but also improves access to immediate assistance during emergencies or criminal threats.
"The GTSP programme offers a safe space for the public to seek protection, assistance, or immediate support in the event of an emergency or criminal incident.
"I would like to express my appreciation to all strategic partners who have joined the GTSP initiative, including those from the corporate sector, local businesses, and volunteer bodies," he said, representing Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad at the Johor State-level GTSP Programme held at Kampung Melayu Majidee Petron here today.
Abdul Latiff said the GTSP programme not only promotes a culture of safety within the community but also can save lives and prevent crime through rapid response from those involved.
He added that the statewide expansion of GTSP will be coordinated with private agencies and local operators to ensure greater participation and the long-term effectiveness of the programme.
Meanwhile, Petron's head of Retail Business Shaliza Mohd Sidek said the implementation of GTSP not only enhances community safety and well-being but also positions Petron stations as reliable locations for early assistance during emergencies.
“We have also taken a step further to ensure safer journeys by installing Automated External Defibrillator (AED) units at several Petron stations along highways to assist in medical emergencies as part of the GTSP initiative, which will be expanded to more locations by the end of this year,” she said.
Today’s programme featured simulations of snatch thefts and motorcycle accidents to strengthen public understanding of safety and emergency procedures under the GTSP.
GTSP is an initiative by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) that provides designated safe points for the public to seek immediate assistance during emergencies or when in need of help.
