Gof Seizes RM1.4 Mln Worth Of Unregistered Cosmetics, Supplements

IPOH, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- The General Operations Force (GOF) seized two lorries loaded with unregistered cosmetic products and supplements, estimated to be worth RM1.42 million, on the North-South Expressway today. 

GOF Ulu Kinta Northern Brigade commander SAC Shahrum Hashim said the seizure was carried out during an enforcement operation on cosmetic products or supplements not registered with the Ministry of Health (MOH), at the southbound Sungai Perak Rest and Service Area near Kuala Kangsar.

He said GOF intelligence revealed that the unregistered products were believed to have been manufactured at a factory in Jitra, Kedah, and the lorries were carrying the cargo for distribution to a company operating in Selangor.

"The arrests and seizures were carried out after an inspection revealed that the cosmetic products or supplements did not have hologram stickers and did not have a Ministry of Health product registration number," he said in a statement tonight.

According to Shahrum, two local men in their 30s were also arrested, besides the confiscation of two lorries worth RM220,000; 5,000 bottles of skin whitening drink supplement products (RM1,100,000); and 1,008 bottles of Vitamin C tablets for skin (RM100,800).

“The cosmetic products and lorries were seized and handed over to the Perak Pharmaceutical enforcement division, while both drivers were detained for further investigation,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under the Sale of Drugs Act 1952 and the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984, which prohibit the manufacturing or sale of unregistered medicinal products.

He reiterated that the GOF Northern Brigade was committed to intensifying efforts to curb the manufacturing, selling, supplying, importing, possessing or giving unregistered medicines through increased surveillance and patrols around Perak, Penang, Kedah and Perlis.
