Two Arrested At GSF Rally Freed On Police Bail

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 (Bernama) -- Two individuals arrested for allegedly obstructing police officers during a rally in support of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) in front of the US Embassy here yesterday have been released on police bail.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the two men, aged 23 and 32, were released on bail last night.

“The investigation papers will be completed, and the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing police officers from carrying out their duties,” he told a press conference today.

In the incident at around 12 noon yesterday, police arrested two individuals after a commotion broke out when officers attempted to disperse rally participants who were blocking traffic along Jalan Tun Razak in front of the embassy.

During the scuffle, a police officer sustained an injury to his mouth after being elbowed by a rally participant while providing security at the scene.

At the same time, Fadil assured that the police would facilitate any rally held in response to Israel’s interception and detention of the GSF humanitarian mission to Gaza early yesterday morning.

He said Kuala Lumpur police remained committed to managing such rallies in the capital in the best way possible to ensure public safety and order, particularly in public areas.

“The Kuala Lumpur police respect the right to assemble, but participants are advised to comply with the law and follow police instructions to maintain public order and safety. This will ensure the rally proceeds smoothly and is not perceived negatively,” he said.
