JPN Offers Multiple Channels To Replace Damaged MyKad

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 18 (Bernama) -- Those with damaged MyKad can easily arrange for a replacement through multiple channels, the National Registration Department (JPN) said.

In a post on its official social media page today, JPN said applications can be submitted at 210 counters nationwide, through the MEKAR Mobile Bus and Van service, via the MyPhone-In line, or online through JPN e-Services.

“Applicants must bring their damaged MyKad and a utility bill if they wish to update their address. Those visiting the MEKAR counter are advised to dress neatly, as the MyKad photograph will be updated,” the department said.

The post said that for applications submitted via MyPhone-In and JPN e-Services, applicants cannot update their photograph or address, but they are still required to bring their damaged MyKad when collecting a new card at the JPN office.

According to JPN, a MyKad must be replaced if it cannot be read by self-service machines or kiosks, if transactions at banks or government agencies are declined due to undetectable card data, or if there is physical damage, such as scratches, cracks, or bends.

Cards that have been in use for more than 10 years should also be replaced due to possible chip damage or data erasure.

JPN said the replacement fee is RM10 for MyKad and RM40 for MyKAS and MyPR, but cards replaced within 12 months from the date the damaged card was submitted incur no charge.

The department said that MyKad replacements at the state headquarters, UTC branches, and selected branches take around 30 minutes to complete, while at other branches the process takes five working days in Peninsular Malaysia and seven working days in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.

JPN also shared tips for taking care of MyKad to prevent damage, including storing it in a special case, not bending or folding it, keeping it away from high heat and water, not placing it near magnets, and protecting it from friction or unfamiliar machines.

“As the country’s official identification document, MyKad is essential for daily transactions, including at banks, clinics, schools, and government agencies,” it said.

The significance of MyKad is even more evident today, with nearly all government aid, such as the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), education incentives, and other welfare assistance, requiring identity verification via a MyKad number.

Failure to present a valid or functional MyKad may cause delays in transactions or prevent assistance from being disbursed.
