Doctor Charged With Cheating SOCSO

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- A doctor pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here today to a charge of cheating the Social Security Organisation (Socso) by forging a domestic worker registration form three years ago.

Dr Winnie Ong Beng Cheen, 44, made the plea after the charge, framed under Section 417 of the Penal Code, was read out before Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Akit. 

She is alleged to have deceived Socso into believing that the domestic worker registration form signed by one Cheah Chyuan Yong was genuine, resulting in Socso registering Indonesian domestic worker Nurhayati Hasan and Cheah to be deceived into making contributions of RM20.60 per month.

The offence was alleged committed at No 22A, Jalan Mesra, Taman Saujana Permai, Bukit Mertajam, on Nov 21, 2022.

Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah allowed her bail of RM5,000 with one surety and set Sept 4 for mention.

 Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Shakila Dahari appeared for the prosecution, while Dr Ong,  who is a single mother with four children aged between 10 and 17 years, was represented by lawyer Chiang Kian Hong.
