JOHOR BAHRU, July 20 (Bernama) -- A 45-year-old Pakistani national was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after crashing his car into a restaurant on Jalan Riang Utama here yesterday evening.
Johor Bahru Selatan police chief ACP Raub Selamat said the suspect, who was driving a Perodua Kelisa, fled the scene after reversing into several parked motorcycles and a car.
He was later tracked down by traffic police along the Pasir Gudang Highway heading towards Perling. The suspect initially ignored police instructions but eventually pulled over near kilometre 8, exited the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot.
“He crossed the road, climbed a fence and jumped off a two-metre wall, but was detained shortly after, injured and in a weakened state,” Raub said in a statement today.
The man was taken to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatment. A blood sample was collected for further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code, Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, and Sections 44(1) and 26(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
