KUANTAN, July 14 (Bernama) -- Police issued 194 traffic summonses and seized 24 motorcycles during Op Samseng Jalanan conducted around this city from 4 pm to 11 pm yesterday.

Kuantan acting police chief Supt Mohd Adli Mat Daud said the operation followed public complaints over illegal racing and dangerous motorcycle stunts that frequently occur on weekends.

“A total of 65 individuals aged between 15 and 25 were issued summonses for various traffic offences,” he said in a statement today.

He said an 18-year-old male motorcyclist was also arrested during the operation for performing a dangerous ‘wheelie’ stunt on a public road.

“Such actions not only endanger the rider but also pose a serious risk to other road users. The individual is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.

Mohd Adli stressed that reckless riding is a serious offence under the Act, which carries a jail term of up to five years, a fine of between RM5,000 and RM15,000, or suspension of the driving licence.

He also reminded the public, especially youths, not to turn public roads into racing grounds or venues for dangerous stunts.
