05/05/2024 09:01 PM

BACHOK, May 5 (Bernama) --The National Kenaf and Tobacco Board (LKTN) has opened a new regional office to oversee the smooth implementation of kenaf development and tobacco control activities in the East Coast.

LKTN director-general Wan Baharuddin Wan Ismail said the new office would oversee tobacco control in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.

He said the opening of the new office is in line with LKTN's current development, aiming to strengthen supervision of the tobacco industry, adding that a new building is required to enhance licencing, enforcement and monitoring activities.

"Twelve officers and staff are stationed at this office, supported by 18 MyStep appointed officers," he told reporters at the opening ceremony of the new office here today.

The East Coast LKTN is responsible for planning and implementing kenaf cultivation programmes covering 1,232.40 hectares, involving 649 target groups. This represents 53.60 per cent of LKTN's overall target area of 2,300 hectares.
