AMMAN/ISTANBUL, June 17 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Twenty-one Arab and Muslim countries have issued a joint statement condemning Israel’s airstrikes on Iran, calling for regional de-escalation, nuclear disarmament “without selectivity” and respect for international law, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.

According to Egypt’s state news agency MENA, the joint statement followed an initiative by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, who held consultations with his regional counterparts.

The countries involved in the initiative are Türkiye, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Bahrain, Brunei, Chad, Gambia, Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, Egypt and Mauritania.

The foreign ministers denounced Israel’s attacks on Iranian territory as violations of international law and the United Nations Charter.

They stressed the importance of upholding national sovereignty, territorial integrity and the principles of good neighbourliness, while urging peaceful resolution of disputes.

The ministers also expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict, warning of serious consequences for regional security and stability.

They called for an immediate halt to Israeli hostilities against Iran and comprehensive efforts to de-escalate the situation towards a ceasefire.

Tensions have risen sharply since Friday, when Israel launched coordinated airstrikes on multiple sites across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities.
