Malaysian Fruits Debut In Namibia

KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 (Bernama) -- The inaugural Malaysian Fruits and Food Promotion held at the High Commission of Malaysia in Windhoek, Namibia, on Wednesday (May 15) marked the debut of Malaysian fruits into the Namibian market.

 The event showcased mangga harum manis, jackfruit (nangka), nanas MD2, jambu Lohan and pomelo for over 200 guests, including businessmen, retailers, diplomats and locals to savour.

Acting High Commissioner of Malaysia to Namibia, Datuk Dr Mohamad Rameez Yahaya, in a statement said the initiative would enable more Namibians to become distributors of Malaysian fruits and food products.

"This initial introduction of our fruits, although in small quantities, represents a significant step towards entering the Namibian market and potentially other African markets," he said.

Mohamad Rameez said discussions are being held with the country’s agricultural authority and interested distributors to bring in other fruits, such as durian.

The day-long event was organised with the assistance of the Malaysian Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) and it attracted prominent local distributors like SAPAR, Shoprite, and Pick and Pay Namibia.

The event also celebrated Malaysian cuisine in which the Perwakilan Ladies of Namibia assisted in preparing traditional Malaysian dishes with the fruits provided by FAMA.

The guests were treated to a variety of dishes, including bubur manis, pengat nangka, salad tomato, buah pomelo, mangga and nasi impit, pajeri nenas, and Petis Buah Jambu, complemented by Malaysian staples like rendang ayam and mee goreng.
