SERI ISKANDAR, March 5 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) have inked an agreement to offer a one-year foundation programme modeled after UTP’s curriculum known as the UCSF-UTP Programme.

Signing the agreement on behalf of UTP were its Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Prof Ir Dr Hilmi Mukhtar, while UCSF was represented by its Vice-Chancellor Dr Rafiq Idris and Acting Registrar Mohd Asyrul Shuhaimi.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor witnessed the signing, which took place at Menara Kinabalu, Sabah, accompanied by PETRONAS Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management and UTP Chairman Board of Directors Datuk Ir Bacho Pilong.

In a statement today, UTP said that the agreement builds upon the memorandum of understanding signed in October 2022, focusing on the two institutions' collaboration in academics, research and student exchange programmes.

The UCSF-UTP Foundation Programme, slated to begin in Sept 2024, is open for applications from Sabahan students who have completed their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia before the start date.

According to the statement, students will have the opportunity to pursue bachelor’s degree programmes in science and engineering at UTP’s campus in Perak once they have completed the programme at UCSF.

“We are excited about the collaboration with UCSF and the opportunity to contribute to the educational and professional growth of Sabahan students.

“This partnership reflects UTP’s dedication to fostering regional talent for the energy sector and beyond,” said Mohamed Ibrahim.

UTP, recognised as the nation’s premier university and the foremost private institution in the ASEAN region by esteemed global higher education analysts Times Higher Education and Quacquarelli Symonds, ensures that students acquire the essential skills, knowledge and competencies needed to excel in their future careers with competency and resilience.

“UTP remains steadfast in its commitment to providing top-tier education. Our industry-relevant programmes, cutting-edge facilities and strategic collaborations set UTP apart, empowering students for a successful and resilient future,” Mohamed Ibrahim added.
