KUCHING, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- The iconic Sarawak laksa has been recognised as a heritage menu that represents unity in conjunction with the Sarawak Edition of FoodUnites: Ini Warisan Kita programme, said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.
He said a total of 12 Sarawak laksa stalls owned by local entrepreneurs, each with its unique characteristics, were featured at the programme held at the Kuching Waterfront.
“These eateries have received the ‘Citarasa Menu Kami’ recognition for successfully highlighting moments of unity through Malaysia’s local cuisine.
“In addition to Sarawak laksa, the FoodUnites event also features six other main traditional foods, such as nasi lemak, fried kuey teow, ayam pansuh, biryani rice, kek lapis and latok,” he said at the programme launch today.
Approximately 10,000 visitors are expected to enliven the programme, which will run until tomorrow.
Aaron said that this initiative would be expanded to other states and regions in an effort to strengthen unity among Malaysians through the promotion of heritage food.
The upcoming edition of FoodUnites is scheduled to take place in Melaka, featuring the famous asam pedas as the state heritage menu, he said.
