BANGKOK, Dec 21 (Bernama) -- Thailand has launched the "Coding for Better Life" Programme to foster upcoming talent and stimulate innovation by focusing on the development of digital skills.
As outlined by government spokesperson Chai Wacharonke, this programme is a joint effort involving the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) and collaborators from both public and private sectors. The main objective is to advance the digital ecosystem and human capital through skill enhancement.
Wacharonke underscored the government's commitment to a policy that encourages digital technology to bolster national competitiveness. The "Coding for Better Life" Programme is in line with this commitment, aiming to nurture expertise and drive progress in the digital domain.
“The development of digital ecosystem under the “Coding for Better Life” Programme will be carried out in four areas including the development of Coding Infrastructure in 1,500 schools nationwide. “Coding Coach Incubation will be held to develop coding curricula and enhance the teaching skills of over 3,000 instructors. More than 20 coding curricula in 3 levels (Basic, Intermediate and Advanced) will be developed.
“Acceleration Through Coding Challenge will be carried out to foster extracurricular learning by actively engaging teachers and students in intensive coding skill enhancement programme,” he said in a statement.
He added that Awareness Coding Thailand will be held to create awareness of coding among parents and the public and to apply coding skills in wide-ranging contexts, including agriculture, business operations, technology and creative digital innovation.
Chai said the long-term programme aims to sustainably tackle the shortage of workforce with digital literacy through developing coding skills in youths, instructors, educational personnel, parents, and the broader public, and upgrading related basic infrastructure.
“Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has met and discussed possible cooperation with global tech giants, such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, and Huawei. Apple, in particular, is considering its collaboration with Thailand in sharpening skills of Thai application developers through human resource development programme and business collaboration,” he said.
“In his dialogues with the world’s leading firms, the Prime Minister also encouraged business matching to enhance national competitiveness and drive forward Thailand’s digital economy at the global level,” he said.
