Nstp Defeat Defending Champions Astro In Allianz Badminton Tournament

KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 (Bernama) -- The New Straits Times Press (NSTP) emerged victorious in the Allianz Media Badminton 2023 tournament after slaying defending champions, Astro with a 2-1 win in the final. 

Allianz Malaysia Berhad in a statement today said the third edition competition held at Sports Arena Sentosa, here, yesterday was joined by 10 teams for the first time with the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) making its debut while Malaysiakini made their return after a one-year hiatus. 

The competition which was introduced in 2019 and held this year on World Badminton Day saw third place going to The Star who defeated debutant Bernama 2-1, while the Plate final which was introduced for the first time was won by Sinar Harian who beat China Press 2-1. 

Malaysiakini and Media Mulia in the meantime received consolation prizes.

Allianz Malaysia Berhad Chief Executive Officer Sean Wang, who is also Allianz badminton team captain, said the annual media tournament was an event that he looks forward to as a badminton enthusiast while at the same time, it gave the company a chance to engage with media friends away from work.

“ As I always say, work hard, play hard and congratulations to all winners today,” he said in the statement.
