MAKKAH, June 18 (Bernama) -- Former Malaysian motorcycle racer Wazi Abdul Hamid reminded youths not to spend money on motorcycle accessories, but instead save in Tabung Haji (TH) so that they can perform the Haj at a young age.

Wazi, 52, who is now in the Holy Land to perform the Haj, said he was amazed to see that many of the foreign pilgrims were young people who were so energetic in performing the pilgrimage.

"So, instead of buying sport rims, helmets costing RM2,000, RM3,000, it's better to keep it (the money) in TH, only RM1,300 to register, the call (to perform the Haj) Insya-Allah will come," he told reporters here.

He also suggested that TH approach young people through special programmes to attract the interest of that group to save and then register for the Haj.

"Perhaps it is necessary to think about how to rejuvenate this organisation so that young people do not feel distant from TH," he said.

Meanwhile, a young Malaysian pilgrim, Muhammad Haqim Mohd Farid, 18, who was not accompanied by family members, said he dared himself to be away from his parents during his stay in the Holy Land.

"Furthemore, I really like travelling alone, I'm used to being alone," said Muhammad Haqim, who hails from Batu Pahat, Johor.
