Step Up To The Plate And Show No Fear - Silat Coach Tells Young Exponents

SEPANG, May 4 (Bernama) -- National silat coach Nasri Nasir has called on his exponents to step up to the plate and show true fighting spirit to make up for their lack of experience when the action begins at the Cambodia SEA Games tomorrow.

He said although 75 per cent of the national exponents are young and will be making their SEA Games debut, he is confident they will show no fear and will fight till the end for the country.

“What differentiates them is their lack of experience but, to me, that is not a big problem. We can overcome that by showing true fighting spirit and a will to win.

“Our exponents are all well-prepared, having taken part in several championships and undergone intensive training. So, we hope they will maintain their form until competition day,” he told reporters before leaving for Cambodia from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA 2), here, today.

Nasri added that the national exponents are all in tip-top shape and ready to give their best when the silat competition is held from May 6-10.

“Several athletes who were injured have fully recovered, so we can say they are all primed for action,” he said.

Meanwhile, team manager Datuk Seri Khairudin E.S Abd Samad has called on the national exponents to brace themselves for all kinds of obstacles, like the hot weather and imperfect venues, in Phnom Penh and use them as motivation in their pursuit of gold for the country.

The Malaysian National Silat Federation (Pesaka) have set a two-gold target for the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, which will be held from May 5-17.
