31 countries to participate in 62nd Quran Recitation and Memorisation Competition

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- Forty One participants from 31 countries will participate in the 62nd International Al-Quran Recitation and Memorisation Competition (MTHQA) which will be held for six days at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) starting Oct 19.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Idris Ahmad said among the countries that will participate in MTHQA this year are Algeria, Jordan, England, Canada, Afghanistan and Belgium.

"Usually the organisation of MTHQA involves two categories, which are the Al-Quran recitation competition in tarteel (in proper order and with no haste) and the 30-chapter Al-Quran memorisation competition.

"However, the organisation of MTHQA this time only involves the Al-Quran recital competition category. The decision was made to enable organisers to curb the risk of COVID-19 infection and to ensure the safety of all parties involved," he told reporters after the pre-launch of the 62nd  MTHQA 2022, here today.

Idris said MTHQA participants this time had to go through an online screening session involving 64 participants from 40 countries from July 1 to 7.

He said Malaysia will be represented by the 2022 National Al-Quran Recitation and Memorisation champion Aiman Ridhwan Mohamad Ramlan and Sofizah Mousin.

He said the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah had consented to grace the event and present prizes to the winning Qari and Qariah.

Commenting further, Idris said that among the differences and uniqueness that will be brought into the MTHQA this time is the use of 3D Augmented Reality (AR) Graphics System technology to attract attention and touch the souls of the audiences in reciting the holy verses of the Quran.
