MELAKA, Aug 4 -- The Melaka National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) is organising the Temasya Pendekar Maya 2021 with various online programmes from July 10 to Aug 19.
Its director Ezlina Alias said in a statement today that the festival, organised in collaboration with the Melaka Silat Grandmasters Association (SiGMA) and Akademi Perantara, is aimed at preserving the martial art of silat which had been recognised as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2019.
Among the programmes is a webinar entitled 'Seni Silat Sebagai Gaya Hidup Lestari’ (Silat Martial Arts as a Sustainable Lifestyle) to be broadcast live on Temasya Pendekar Maya Facebook page and YouTube channel at about 10 am on Aug 17.
Others are three categories of Seni Silat Solo Kreatif competition, namely Seni Silat Solo Kreatif Cilik Tangan Kosong Tanpa Senjata (children aged 12 years and below), Seni Silat Solo Kreatif Remaja Tangan Kosong Tanpa Senjata (teenagers aged between 13 and 17) and Seni Silat Solo Kreatif Dewasa Tangan Kosong atau bersenjata (18 years and above).
Participants must submit their silat video before the closing date on Aug 10, she added.
