Mustapa Regrets PAS-Led State Government's Empty Promises To Traders

KOTA BAHARU, April 16 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Umno has slammed the PAS-led state government over its selfish attitude in ceasing negotiations with 415 Kota Baharu Municipal Council (MPKB) Old Market and UDA Arcade traders.

Kelantan Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said the traders should be given a chance to negotiate with the state government on the grouses they faced.

"We regret to hear that there is no more room for negotiations...I appeal to the state government to postpone relocating the traders until a solution has been reached," he told reporters after visiting traders at the MPKB Old Market.

Also present was MPKB Old Market Traders Association chairman Ab Salim Ahmad.

The issue of relocating traders to the Tok Guru Bazaar became a prolonged affair when the traders refused to move despite being issued a notice to vacate their premises by May 31.

Mustapa said traders opposed the move because the bazaar was not only crowded, but they were imposed a high fee as opposed to an earlier promise made by PAS that they would be relocated to a more comfortable and cheaper business premises.

Commenting on the agriculture and agro-based industry ministry's offer to put up traders at the National Food Terminal in Tunjong here, Mustapa, who is also international trade and industry minister, said it was up to the traders involved to accept it.

"This is not a matter of the offer, but the promises made by PAS that is being scrutinised," he added.
