KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) said that the equipment storage facility that caught fire in Desa Pinggiran Putra, Sepang in Selangor is not owned or managed by the company.

It said in a statement today that the facility and the equipment stored at that location are under the management and responsibility of the contractor, X-Rail Systems, who is involved in the Klang Valley Double Track Electrification Project (KVDT) under the Public Works Department (JKR) and the Ministry of Transport (MOT).

"In this regard, KTMB said that the management of the store, assets, and safety aspects at the incident location are not under the control or responsibility of KTMB," it said.

KTMB also hopes that the public and the media can correct the information regarding the ownership and management of the store in question to avoid confusion.

Earlier, the media reported that a storage facility associated with KTMB at the station was about 95 per cent destroyed in a fire on Saturday night.

According to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the fire did not result in any loss of life but destroyed various equipment, while the cause of the incident and the amount of damage are still under investigation.
