ALOR GAJAH, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- Despite his busy campaign schedule for the 16th Melaka State Election, Pakistan Harapan (PH) candidate Muhammad Khuzairi Mohd Kamal Kannan still found time to visit his paternal relatives who are celebrating Deepavali today.
The Rembia state constituency candidate, who is of mixed Indian and Malay descent, said that such visits are a tradition for him to maintain family ties and to celebrate the festival with his relatives.
“Today, I came to visit my aunt and cousins whom I have not seen in a long time. So, this is also an opportunity for me to spend time with my family and further strengthen our bonds,” he told Bernama at Taman Seri Kelemak here today.
Commenting on the progress of his campaign since yesterday, Muhammad Khuzairi said he had received positive feedback, while engaging with residents in villages and multiracial communities within the Rembia constituency.
“I believe that voters are now more open-minded in making their choices, placing greater emphasis on a candidate’s background, whether they are local, and the quality of service they can offer, rather than focusing solely on the party they represent,” he added.
Muhammad Khuzairi said that if given the mandate to represent the constituency, the welfare of residents would be his top priority, with assistance channels provided to those in need regardless of their political affiliations, religion or race.
He also intends to spur economic development in the constituency by attracting investments to create more jobs opportunities, especially for the youth and the local community, thereby improving the overall well-being of residents.
He said his experience as a former public relations officer at the Malaysia Chinese Chamber office in Xi’an, China, provided him with opportunities to engage with investors, thereby opening doors to explore the potential of bringing investments into the Rembia constituency.
“There is also an industrial area here, so we want to further boost the economy by attracting investors or high-end factories.
“Therefore, by bringing more investors into the Rembia constituency, our primary goal is to ensure that the local residents can enjoy the benefits and prosperity that come with it,” he added.
Muhammad Khuzairi also said that other issues identified included roads and drainage systems, which needed attention following incidents of flash floods that could occur after about two hours of continuous rain.
He also wants to enhance sports and recreational facilities for youths, including providing a skateboarding area and a turf field to give them more space for leisure activities.
The Rembia state seat will see a three-cornered contest involving Muhammad Khuzairi, Barisan Nasional’s Ahmad Norazril Abd Aziz and Parti Bersama Malaysia’s Mohamed Aman Akil Abdul Talib.
Polling is on Nov 14, with early voting set for Tuesday (Nov 10).
