‘Bernama Buddies’ Gathering Strengthens Bonds, Celebrates Camaraderie Among Former Bernama Staff

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- More than 40 Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) retirees gathered here today at the 'Hi Tea Meet Up for Bernama Buddies' to strengthen bonds and celebrate the camaraderie forged during their service at the agency.

Former Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang said the camaraderie and unity among the agency's staff remained a cherished hallmark that has been preserved across generations.

“The camaraderie and bonds of friendship in Bernama are very strong. From the past until now, mentioning Bernama always evokes a sense of unity,” said Azman, who served Bernama for more than 40 years.

Echoing his sentiments, former Bernama chief executive officer Datuk Roslan Ariffin said the gathering was a testament to the enduring ties among staff, even though some had left the agency long ago.

“Most of those attending today were born in the 1950s and 1960s, so they were with Bernama for quite a while... even in retirement, the connection remains because that is what Bernama instilled in us,” he said.

Meanwhile, event organiser and former Bernama Multimedia Desk senior editor Hafizah Kamaruddin said the gathering was the first structured reunion held following an informal meet-up 10 years ago.

She said the gathering was especially meaningful because it brought all retirees together regardless of their former rank or designation.

Hafizah, who served Bernama for over 30 years, hoped the gathering would become an annual affair to continue strengthening bonds of friendship among former staff.

Also present were former Bernama journalist and former International Islamic University Malaysia rector Prof Datuk Seri Syed Arabi Idid, former senator Datuk Seri Boon Som Inong, and former Bernama general manager Datuk Yong Soo Heong.
