Melaka Polls: Adly Appreciates Bukit Katil Voter’s Return From New Zealand To Cast Ballot

MELAKA, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- With just a week remaining in the campaign for the 16th Melaka state election, the return of a Bukit Katil state constituency voter from New Zealand has caught the attention of Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Adly Zahari.

The Melaka PH chairman said although the voter’s return happened to coincide with the festive season, the person’s determination to return and cast a ballot on Nov 14 was greatly appreciated, reflecting the strong commitment of voters living abroad.

“I appreciate their sacrifice, even though they returned early, possibly because of the festive holidays.

“However, I truly appreciate it because, usually, during state elections, it is difficult to see overseas voters returning home to vote, unlike during general elections,” he told reporters after attending the Himpunan Semarak Tani Jualan Agro MADANI programme in Bukit Katil here today.

Commenting on his campaign in the Bukit Katil state constituency, Adly said he and his team had visited nearly 60 per cent of the constituency and received a positive response from residents.

“Alhamdulillah, the response from Bukit Katil residents has been quite good. We know that the people of Melaka, not just those in Bukit Katil, are friendly. We have also avoided playing on sentiments during the campaign because we do not want issues that could make the campaign tense,” he said.

Adly said that after serving in Bukit Katil for eight years, most residents already knew him, with some taking the opportunity to raise local issues.

He said PH had instructed all its candidates to promptly address residents’ complaints that could be resolved during the campaign period, while matters requiring longer-term action should be referred to the relevant authorities.

“Do not wait until Nov 14. Whatever can be resolved should be referred to the agencies and settled. That is part of our responsibility,” he said.

He said that during the final week of campaigning, PH would continue explaining its manifesto promises, current issues and the coalition’s direction for Melaka to voters.

Adly is facing a four-cornered contest for the Bukit Katil state seat against Ridzuan Sarif of Perikatan Nasional, Dr Aliza Che Amran of Parti Bersama Malaysia and independent candidate Abu Bakar Sabudin.

In the previous state election, Adly won the seat with a majority of 1,057 votes, also in a four-cornered contest.

The Election Commission has set Nov 14 as polling day, while early voting will take place on Nov 10.
