YTL Corp Commits RM27.2 Mln LSE Scholarship Programme To Empower Malaysian Students

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- A new RM27.2 million (£5 million) philanthropic commitment from Malaysia-based multinational YTL Corporation Berhad will establish the YTL Malaysian Scholarship Programme at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to support local students over the next 20 years.

The commitment was facilitated by YTL’s Executive Chairman Tan Sri Francis Yeoh, creating life-changing opportunities for generations of Malaysian students.

In a statement, YTL Corp said the inaugural cohort of scholars joined LSE in September, comprising nine undergraduate and postgraduate students across nine departments throughout the School.

"The future of a nation is nurtured in the minds and hearts of its young people. By investing in capable and passionate students today, we sow the seeds of a Malaysia whose progress is guided by wisdom, whose prosperity is shared, and whose leadership is worthy of the trust of its people," he said.

He added that at a time when outstanding leaders are increasingly scarce, education must cultivate character alongside intellect, conscience alongside ambition and a sense of duty alongside the pursuit of success.

The firm said this partnership builds on a history of positive collaboration between LSE and Malaysian partners with the campus hosting more than 250 Malaysian students in the 2025/26 session.

Commenting on the incredibly generous gift, LSE President and Vice Chancellor Professor Larry Kramer said the investment in education reflects a shared belief in the future potential of society.

"Empowering future generations to create, innovate, and lead offers our best path to a better world ahead," he said.

YTL Corp said the Yeoh family has a 30-year history of supporting scholarships for hundreds of Malaysian students, a dedication to economic ties that earned Yeoh an honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) in 2019.
