JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- A total of 2,867 Johor contingent Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officers and personnel are on standby for the Northeast Monsoon under Op Banjir 2026/2027.
Johor Police Chief CP Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the operation includes 827 land and 2,477 water assets, 119 power generators and 7,207 C-Tents throughout the monsoon period.
He said the police have also prepared specific assets for rescue operations and disaster management, including 73 cars, 49 four-wheel drives, 44 boats, 40 boat engines, 29 boat trailers, three jet skis and two amphibious vehicles.
"We also emphasise five priorities, namely intelligence and operation based readiness, inter-agency coordination, public safety and order, as well as swift action, to ensure effective responses on the ground," he said in a statement today.
Earlier, Johor police held an inter-agency coordination meeting to streamline responses for the monsoon, focusing on 337 identified flood-risk hotspots.
Ab Rahaman said the police continually strengthen strategic cooperation with relevant agencies, including the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, the 7th Brigade Malaysian Armed Forces, Malaysian Civil Defence Force, Johor State Health Department and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.
He said the Johor Social Welfare Department had also identified 1,072 temporary evacuation centres statewide, with a capacity for 265,599 victims.
"Accordingly, all district police chiefs and relevant formations have been reminded to constantly monitor the situation in their respective areas to enable immediate action," he said.
The monsoon season, expected to continue until March 2027, potentially brings continuous heavy rain, floods and rough seas that could threaten residents' safety, especially in high-risk areas.
Based on the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) forecast, three to five episodes of continuous heavy rain are expected between November 2026 and January 2027.
