MBSP Seizes 40 Cats, Dog Over Breach Of Permitted Pet Limit

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- The Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has seized 40 cats and a dog during an enforcement operation in Taman Sejati over non-compliance with regulations on the number of pets allowed to be kept.

In a statement today, MBSP said the operation was conducted after the owner failed to comply with a notice and warning issued on July 29 requiring the number of pets to be reduced to the permitted limit.

“Although the owner initially appeared to have complied with the notice, follow-up monitoring revealed that the number of animals kept remained above the permitted limit, prompting seizure and confiscation action in accordance with the relevant enforcement provisions and procedures ,” it said.

MBSP said the operation also led to the seizure of 37 cages, most of which were in poor condition, with inspections revealing that some lacked food and water and that food containers were soiled with animal urine and faeces.

The council said a police report had been lodged in connection with the operation for record purposes, and all the seized animals had been taken to the MBSP Animal Holding Pound for further action.

MBSP also stressed the importance of animal welfare, environmental cleanliness and community well-being, reminding pet owners to ensure their pets' basic needs were met and their hygiene and comfort maintained at all times.

MBSP will continue to carry out monitoring and enforcement activities professionally and in accordance with the law to safeguard animal welfare and maintain community harmony, it added.
