SIBU, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- Security controls at Sibu Airport were the focus of a visit by Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain here today.
The agency said that the working visit was aimed at assessing the effectiveness of passenger and cargo inspections, as well as coordination among enforcement agencies at the airport's entry point.
"These measures are important to ensure that security controls remain effective in line with the development of air connectivity networks and the potential economic growth of Sarawak's central region.
"AKPS is committed to ensuring that the smooth movement of passengers and goods is always balanced with national security and sovereignty requirements," the agency posted Facebook today.
Sibu Airport is one of the strategic air gateways connecting central Sarawak with major domestic and regional economic centres.
The visit was part of a series of inspections by Mohd Shuhaily to national entry points in Sarawak.
He also conducted a working visit to Bintulu Port to observe daily operations and meet officers and personnel on duty at the site.
As an international trade gateway, Bintulu Port plays a strategic role in the country's border security.
