JASIN, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- The Human Resources Ministry (KESUMA) is ready to assist Media Mulia Sdn Bhd employees affected by the company’s restructuring and operational rationalisation involving Utusan Malaysia and Kosmo! newspapers, particularly those who may lose their jobs.

Its minister, Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, said the ministry remained committed to supporting workers facing unemployment or financial hardship.

“Through the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), workers who lose their jobs can receive financial assistance for up to six months, with payments gradually decreasing to help them while they seek new employment.

“KESUMA is always concerned about workers' welfare, especially those who lose their jobs or face financial difficulties. This assistance is already available under PERKESO,” he told reporters after visiting SJK(T) Jasin Lalang in Ayer Merbau here today.

He said PERKESO's MyFutureJobs portal also offered nearly 400,000 job opportunities for Malaysians seeking employment.

“The Communications Ministry is also working on assistance measures and possible solutions for those affected,” he said.

On Nov 2, Media Mulia director and chief financial officer Abd Wahid Idris said the company was conducting a strategic review of its business model, operational structure and future direction, including implementing a paid leave programme involving nearly 100 employees.

He said the rationalisation exercise was aimed at ensuring the company's long-term viability and sustainability amid changes in the media landscape, particularly the industry's growing shift towards digital platforms.
