KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) is investigating a collision involving a local fishing boat and an unidentified vessel in the state’s waters on Monday.

Terengganu MMEA director Maritime Captain Hamiludin Che Awang said the agency had recorded statements from several witnesses to obtain a clearer picture of the incident.

He said investigations revealed that the incident occurred at about 5 am, approximately 33 nautical miles from the Kuala Terengganu estuary.

“At the time of the incident, a Class A local fishing boat was drifting, while its five crew members, including the skipper, were resting on board.

“One of the crew noticed a larger vessel approaching their boat at high speed before a collision occurred, damaging the rear section and roof structure of the boat,” he said in a statement today.

However, Hamiludin said none of the local fishing boat’s crew were injured, and the boat was brought back to Duyong Jetty for repairs.

He said the identity and nationality of the other vessel involved in the collision had yet to be established.
