KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (MOSTI) will continue to strengthen the development of the country's cybersecurity technology to mitigate the risk of attacks, particularly those targeting sensitive information and strategic interests.
Its minister, Datuk Chang Lih Kang, said this was important in view of the growing threat of cyberattacks, not only in Malaysia but worldwide.
While cyberattacks could not be entirely prevented, he said efforts must be stepped up to ensure that the country's critical information is not exposed to such threats.
“Frankly, I do not think we can prevent cyberattacks 100 per cent, but at the very least, we must ensure that sensitive information and matters critical to the country are not exposed to the risk of cyberattacks,” he told reporters after officiating the Cradle LIVE! Summit 2026 at The Arch Gallery here today.
Chang said MOSTI was also focusing on developing locally produced cybersecurity solutions by empowering startups actively exploring the technology.
He said rapid technological advancements required local companies to continuously enhance their capabilities and expertise to ensure the country was better prepared to face cyber threats.
“These threats evolve every day, which is why continuous learning is crucial, and efforts to enhance technological capabilities must never stop,” he said.
Yesterday, cyberattacks were reported in several European countries, disrupting cooling systems at a number of business premises and resulting in food having to be discarded.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said yesterday that the government would strengthen the country's preparedness in facing geopolitical uncertainties and global security threats, including ensuring that the country's food, water and energy supplies remained sufficient and uninterrupted.
