ALOR GAJAH, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Taboh Naning state seat, Junainah Sahat, 41, wants to focus on economic development and job creation if elected in the 16th Melaka state election.
Popularly known as Ajue, she said Taboh Naning had the potential to become an entrepreneurship and logistics hub due to its strategic location near the Simpang Ampat Toll Plaza, which could attract investment and create jobs for local residents
She said small industries, particularly in food manufacturing, agriculture and logistics, could be developed to provide more employment opportunities for young people.
"I want local youths to have job opportunities in their own area instead of having to move to other states to find work," she told Bernama when met at Taboh Naning here today.
She said development should also reach rural areas, including routes towards Lubok China and Ayer Molek, which still required attention in terms of facilities and economic opportunities.
Junainah also wants to strengthen the economic opportunities of the Orang Asli community in Kampung Bukit Payung through entrepreneurship training and business facilities to help them generate their own income.
"Rather than just providing assistance, we should help build their capabilities and create opportunities for them to develop local food products and handicrafts into sources of income," she said
The mother of six, whose children are aged between seven and 16, also wants to provide recreational and sports facilities for young people, including the Orang Asli community, to encourage greater community participation.
On local concerns, she said recurring floods in Brisu were among the issues requiring urgent attention.
She said the problem, which could be linked to the drainage system and narrow river channels, needed a comprehensive solution to prevent residents from facing repeated flooding every year.
Junainah will face a straight fight against incumbent Taboh Naning assemblyman Datuk Zulkiflee Mohd Zin of Barisan Nasional (BN).
Polling will be held on Nov 14, while early voting is on Nov 10.
