ALOR GAJAH, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- The government has allocated RM79.12 million for the implementation of 44 development projects in Melaka this year, comprising 16 new projects and 28 ongoing projects.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the major allocations included RM22.05 million for nine Rural Roads (JALB) projects, comprising one new and eight ongoing projects.
He said the allocation also covered one new Village Link Roads (JPD) project worth RM6 million and two new projects under the People's Well-being (KR) programme, valued at RM6 million.
“Also included are one new project under the Social Amenities Programme (PAMS), worth RM3 million; one ongoing Rural Bridge (JMLB) project, valued at RM2 million; and two Corporate and Skills Development projects worth RM1.23 million, comprising one new project and one ongoing project,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said that 15 projects under MARA (Majlis Amanah Rakyat) are allocated RM24 million, comprising four new projects and one ongoing project; three ongoing projects under RISDA (Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority) are allocated RM9.22 million; eight projects under KEMAS (Community Development Department) are allocated RM4.31 million, comprising four new projects and four ongoing projects; and two new projects under FELCRA (Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority) are allocated RM1.3 million.
Earlier, he officiated the Gerakan Massa Masyarakat Desa (GEMA) programme at Dewan FELCRA Ramuan Cina, Lubok China, here today.
Ahmad Zahid said the overall allocation reflected the government's continued commitment to strengthening infrastructure, improving the people's well-being and expanding educational opportunities and human capital development in the state.
He also expressed confidence that more development projects could be implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ab Rauf Yusoh to ensure that more benefits reached the people of Melaka.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid said an additional allocation of RM10 million had been provided to the Melaka TVET Centre of Excellence to strengthen skills training and produce a workforce that meets industry needs.
He said the welfare of the people also remained a priority, with RM468 million in assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) benefiting 28,386 Melaka residents, particularly those in need of assistance and social protection.
“This is the development approach that must continue to be strengthened so that Melaka's economic progress also creates job opportunities, increases incomes and benefits rural communities,” he said.
