KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- The national men's hockey squad continued their impressive campaign at the 2026 Asian Champions Trophy (ACT) by thrashing Bangladesh 6-1 in their third match in Punjab today.
Forward Muhammad Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal stole the spotlight at the Surjit Singh Olympic Hockey Stadium, scoring twice — a field goal in the 14th minute before converting a penalty corner in the 22nd minute.
Bangladesh narrowed the deficit through a penalty corner by Amirul Islam in the 26th minute, but Malaysia restored their two-goal advantage three minutes later when Akhimullah Anuar Esook converted a penalty corner.
Malaysia piled further misery on Bangladesh by scoring two more goals within a minute, with Azimuddin Syakir Kamaruddin converting a penalty corner in the 32nd minute, followed by a field goal from Shello Silverius a minute later to give Malaysia a comfortable 5-1 lead.
Nik Aiman Nik Rozemi completed the Speedy Tigers' goal-scoring spree with a penalty corner in the 50th minute to seal a 6-1 victory and maintain their perfect record with three consecutive wins so far.
The team coached by Brendon Carolan had earlier opened their campaign with a 5-4 win over China before defeating South Korea 3-1.
The Speedy Tigers will next play hosts India on Nov 1 before concluding their round-robin campaign against Japan a day later.
Only the top four teams will advance to the semi-finals.
