CSA A Boost To Political Stability, People's Well-Being - Deputy Ministers

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- The Confidence and Supply Agreement (CSA) signed between the Unity Government, Bersatu and independent MPs has been hailed as a significant step towards strengthening political stability and prioritising the people's well-being.

The agreement, involving 13 MPs, was welcomed by various parties within Pakatan Harapan (PH), who viewed the move as enabling full focus to be given to economic growth and the country's reform agenda.

Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin said the CSA adopted the same template as the CSA signed between the government led by Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and PH in 2021.

The Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister said although the Unity Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim already had the support of two-thirds of MPs, the additional support would further strengthen the administration's position until the end of the parliamentary term.

“The development reflects democratic maturity, as the opposition and independent MPs are willing to set aside partisan political differences in the national interest, particularly in supporting key agendas such as Budget 2027, institutional reforms and constitutional amendments.

“CSA does not mean the opposition is surrendering to the government. Instead, it demonstrates that the government and opposition can work together in the people's interest despite having different political views, while they remain free to play their role in providing checks and balances,” he said in a statement today.

Echoing the view, Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said a CSA was not new in the country's political landscape and represented a win-win situation for both sides.

“The parties that sign the agreement stand to benefit, while the government gains stability to implement the country's reform and development agendas. However, the biggest winner must be the people, because ultimately every political understanding must translate into benefits and well-being for the people,” said the PKR secretary-general.

Meanwhile, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said the stability resulting from the CSA was important to ensure the smooth passage and implementation of the Budget.

The Kulai MP, who is also DAP Wanita chief, said the support should be followed by a clear commitment to institutional reforms and accountability, while ensuring that the people received tangible benefits.

"There is precedent for a CSA, and it can provide stability for the passage and implementation of Belanjawan. The priority must be to ensure that the rakyat receive tangible benefits, including fair access to constituency development resources. This support should come with a clear commitment to push for positive institutional reforms and hold the government accountable for delivering them," she said.

Touching on the MADANI Government's approach, Deputy National Unity Minister R. Yuneswaran said the government always respected all elected representatives regardless of the size or political strength of their parties.

The Segamat MP said although the government had a two-thirds majority in Parliament, it had chosen to continue engaging with the opposition.

"Unlike some coalitions that prioritise political grandstanding over genuine democratic bargaining, the MADANI Government has demonstrated that negotiations can be conducted with dignity, mutual respect and a firm commitment to democratic principles," he said.

The government today signed the CSA with six Bersatu MPs led by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, as well as seven others, including Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
