KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- Eco World Foundation has donated a total of 200 sets of students’ desks and chairs worth RM40,000 to two schools to replace furniture that had worn out over the years.
Of the total, 130 sets were donated to Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Salak South here and 70 sets to Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Ladang Semenyih, Selangor.
Eco World Foundation chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the foundation strongly believed in education as an investment in the country’s future.
“A good education has the power to change someone’s life for the better. This is the main reason why we are focused on providing education assistance to the schools that need our help,” he said at the handover ceremony held at SJKT Ladang Semenyih, yesterday.
He added that the brand-new desks and chairs were delivered to the schools in August.
Lee also said that the foundation adhered to stringent quality checks to ensure the durability of the desks and chairs so that they could withstand wear and tear.
Since its inception, the foundation has spent RM1 million on replacing school furniture, including canteen tables and benches, as well as providing other facilities.
The Eco World Foundation’s main programme is the Students Aid Programme (SAP), which provides financial assistance to underprivileged primary and secondary school students with the objective of keeping children of all races in school.
Currently, the foundation is helping 2,000 primary and secondary school students from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perlis, Penang and Johor.
With a budget of RM4 million per year, SAP takes a holistic approach by addressing every aspect of a primary student’s educational requirements, from equipping students for the new school year and arranging their meals at school to paying their school and tuition fees.
Apart from these activities, the foundation also seeks to help underprivileged Malaysians through home visits, learning trips, dialogue with parents and career guidance.
