Thousands Of Fans To Cheer Hakim Danish For Podium Finish At Sepang Circuit

SEPANG, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysian motoring fans are hoping for national Moto3 rider Muhammad Hakim Danish Ramli to reach the podium in his debut on home soil at the 2026 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) at Sepang International Circuit (SIC) this weekend.

SIC chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif expressed confidence in the Terengganu-born rider’s ability to deliver his best performance, while cautioning him not to be overly burdened by the pressure to meet the expectations of local fans.

He noted that Hakim Danish’s performance which has seen some fluctuations since the mid-season break requires thorough preparation, a precise race strategy, and the mental fortitude to contend with fierce competition from international riders.

“Everyone’s hope is for him to reach at least the podium.

“However, we must consider his preparation, race strategy, and mental strength specifically how he can position himself at the front,” he said during a press conference ahead of the 2026 Malaysian MotoGP at the SIC yesterday.

Azhan added that the qualifying session would play a crucial role in determining Hakim Danish’s chances of competing among the frontrunners, thereby influencing his race strategy and how his race unfolds.

Nevertheless, he advised the 19-year-old rider to focus on his own performance rather than dwelling too much on the goal of reaching the podium.

“Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to secure a podium finish. Do your best, and regardless of the outcome this Sunday, we will all remain proud of Hakim Danish," he said.

Hakim Danish previously made history by securing third place at the Italian GP in June, followed by a victory at the Czech Republic GP demonstrating his capability to compete in his debut season of the Moto3 World Championship.

The AEON Credit-MT Helmets-MSi rider currently sits in ninth place in the 2026 Moto3 championship standings with 103 points, while the leader, Maximo Quiles of Spain (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team), has accumulated 351 points.

The 2026 Malaysia MotoGP is scheduled to take place from tomorrow through Sunday, with the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) targeting an attendance of 200,000 spectators over the three-day event.
