MELAKA, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- The Ithbat Quran and Fardu Ain Classes Pre-Tahfiz Programme (IKP), introduced as a pilot project in four schools in Melaka, will be expanded to the Federal Territories to provide more primary school pupils with opportunities to learn and memorise the Quran.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the expansion would take into account the capacity and suitability of schools to implement the programme.
“The success of the pilot project in Melaka, where all 80 participating pupils achieved excellent results, demonstrates the programme's potential for expansion to other areas,” he told reporters after officiating at the programme at Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA) JAIM Tanjung Minyak 2 here today.
Zulkifli said the programme was introduced in 2020, while assessments of participating Year Three to Year Six pupils began in 2025, with their results announced today.
He said other states interested in adopting the programme could explore its implementation through collaboration between the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and their respective state religious authorities.
“The initiative was introduced in response to strong demand from parents for tahfiz education while allowing children to attend Quran and Fardu Ain (KAFA) classes alongside their tahfiz studies.
“Through the programme, children can attend KAFA classes while also learning to memorise the Quran from an early age,” he said.
Meanwhile, Zulkifli said JAKIM, in collaboration with state religious authorities and relevant agencies, had developed a tahfiz education ecosystem encompassing the Malaysian Tahfiz Recognition Standards, the National Tahfiz Policy and a certification framework that includes the Malaysian Tahfiz Certificate.
The KAFA Pratahfiz programme has recorded an enrolment of 3,967 pupils, with 77 identified as candidates for the 2025 IKP assessment and another 80 for the 2026 assessment.
The four schools involved in the pilot project are SRA JAIM Jelatang in Alor Gajah, SRA JAIM Tanjung Minyak 2 and SRA JAIM Sungai Putat in Melaka Tengah, and SRA JAIM Taman Maju in Jasin.
