28/10/2026 02:20 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia Bhd’s net profit rose 10 per cent to RM70.20 million in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2026 (3Q2026), from RM63.84 million a year earlier.

The increase was driven mainly by contributions from its securities, derivatives and Islamic markets, as well as data-related businesses, excluding the exchange holding company.

Revenue grew 20.3 per cent to RM216.41 million from RM179.90 million in the same quarter last year, the stock exchange operator said in an announcement today.

It said the securities market recorded a segment profit of RM104.6 million, up 11.5 per cent from RM93.8 million in 3Q2025, on higher operating revenue.

Trading revenue grew 15.3 per cent to RM90.9 million from RM78.9 million, supported by a 13.5 per cent increase in average daily trading value (ADV) for on-market trades and direct business transactions to RM3.2 billion from RM2.8 billion.

The derivatives market posted a segment profit of RM16.5 million, up 34.9 per cent from RM12.2 million a year earlier, also driven by higher operating revenue.

Trading revenue rose 32.6 per cent to RM35.8 million from RM27.0 million, mainly due to an increase in the number of crude palm oil futures (FCPO) and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI Futures (FKLI) contracts traded.

The Islamic market returned to profitability, recording a segment profit of RM2.8 million compared with a loss of RM0.5 million a year earlier, mainly due to lower operating expenses.

The data business recorded a segment profit of RM15.1 million, up 1.2 per cent from RM15.0 million in 3Q2025.

In contrast, the exchange holding company’s segment loss widened to RM3.3 million from RM1.7 million, mainly due to higher staff costs and professional fees.

The other segment, which comprises a multi-environment product exchange, a debt fundraising platform for small and medium-sized companies, a bond-trading reporting platform and an offshore market exchange, recorded a narrower loss of RM1.8 million in 3Q2026, compared with RM2.0 million a year earlier.

For the nine months ended Sept 30, 2026, Bursa Malaysia’s net profit rose to RM214.81 million from RM189.32 million a year earlier, while revenue increased to RM641.46 million from RM536.86 million.

In a separate statement, chief executive officer Datuk Fadl Mohamed said the exchange had maintained momentum across its markets in the first nine months of the year, supported by stronger trading activity, continued fundraising and encouraging investor participation.

He said the 47 initial public offerings (IPOs) during the period, alongside a 27.6 per cent increase in securities market ADV and 19.3 per cent growth in average daily derivatives contracts, reflected healthy market participation.

Looking ahead, he said the board would focus on enhancing market vibrancy and participation while investing in the resilience and reliability of the exchange’s market infrastructure.

“Enhancements to the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI and FTSE Bursa Malaysia Mid 70 indices, MY Value Up and efforts to deepen regional and international market linkages, including between Malaysia and Hong Kong, are among the strategic initiatives we are pursuing towards this end,” he added.
