SMK Pangkor Students Experience Naval Life Aboard KD Teguh Samudera

IPOH, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- A group of 35 students and seven teachers from SMK Pangkor experienced life at sea during an excursion aboard KD Teguh Samudera in Lumut waters.

The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), in collaboration with the Education Ministry, organised the Leadership and Day Sailing Programme with Schools in conjunction with the Western Fleet MADANI Jiwa Murni Programme 2026.

The Western Fleet Command Strategic Communications Division said in a statement tonight that the initiative is part of the Defence Ministry's Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) strategy to strengthen community ties through real-life engagement.

According to the statement, the programme aims to give youth first-hand exposure to naval operations and shipboard life.

"During the voyage, students were introduced to seamanship fundamentals, navigation equipment, safety procedures, and the daily routine of ship crew.

"Activities also included leadership, motivational, and team-building sessions to foster discipline, self-confidence, and teamwork," the statement read.

A career-sharing session with RMN officers and personnel was also held to highlight various naval specialisations, as well as the Navy's role and responsibilities in defending the nation's sovereignty and waters.

The initiative was also aimed at inspiring students to pursue career opportunities in the maritime sector and national defence.

"This programme reflects the continued commitment of the RMN, the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), and the Defence Ministry alongside the Education Ministry to nurture disciplined, resilient, and patriotic youth, in line with the aspirations of the Western Fleet MADANI Jiwa Murni Programme 2026," the statement added.
