MOSCOW, Oct 27 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- The United States (US) Army is training personnel to dig temporary battlefield graves as part of preparations for possible large-scale military conflicts, according to Defence News, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
During exercises in North Carolina, military engineers, medics, chaplains and other specialists practised creating large-scale temporary burial sites.
The military used specialised equipment, including bulldozers, during the exercises.
On average, it took the US Army one hour and 15 minutes to excavate a trench capable of holding 20 bodies.
The third phase of the exercises is scheduled to take place in spring 2027.
According to Defence News, the last military conflict in which the US Army made extensive use of temporary graves was the Korean War (1950–1953).
