RM427 Mln Kemaman Hospital Project Expected To Be Completed In 2027

CHUKAI, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- The RM427 million Kemaman Hospital project in Bandar Baru Kijal, which was originally scheduled for completion in 2021, is now expected to be completed next year, with construction reaching 85 per cent as of Oct 15.

Terengganu Local Government, Housing and Health Committee chairman Datuk Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah said the project had been delayed due to several technical issues faced by the contractor, including financial problems.

He said the hospital, which began construction in November 2017, would have 300 beds, eight operating theatres, an intensive care unit, a specialist clinic complex and day treatment clinics.

“The new hospital will not only increase treatment capacity and provide greater comfort for patients and residents, but also become a new landmark for healthcare services in the district,” he said at a press conference held in conjunction with the launch of the Garden Bay City and The Walk mixed development project in Kerteh, near here, today.

Wan Sukairi said he hoped construction would proceed smoothly and be completed as scheduled to provide residents with more comfortable and conducive healthcare facilities.

“The existing Kemaman Hospital building in Chukai can no longer accommodate the growing number of patients,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said the integrated Garden Bay City and The Walk development would cover 17.8 hectares and comprise 235 affordable housing units, a modern business hub and private medical facilities.

The project, developed by the Terengganu State Heritage Trust Fund Board (LTAWNT) and Ting Mee Land Sdn Bhd, began this year and is expected to take eight years to complete.

Wan Sukairi said the private-sector development project had a targeted gross development value (GDV) of RM800 million.
