KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) has staged three consecutive performances of The Stargazers, a large-scale drama about the university’s pioneering teachers and scientists that took three years to produce.
Professional actors performed alongside HIT teachers and students, portraying scientists and educators who settled in northeast China, taught students and pursued scientific breakthroughs, the university said in a statement.
The drama tells the story of the "800 Faculty Pillars", more than 800 young teachers and students who came to HIT from across China in the 1950s. This teaching team, with an average age of just 27.5, they built up the university’s academic disciplines and trained talent urgently needed for China’s industrialisation.
Centred on "stargazing" and "inheritance" as its theme, the production presents the idea of staying grounded in hard work while looking up to the stars, with each generation becoming one that others look up to, according to HIT.
“Standing on this stage, we recreate the extraordinary pasts of our predecessors and interpret the sincere faith of a whole generation," said Zou Mingye, a student from the School of Architecture and Design.
The performances were also live-streamed on new media platforms, drawing 500,000 online viewers, the university said.
